G.W. 21 -- Thomas Dale 19
This was the first meeting in nearly 40 years between these two traditional state powerhouses. It couldn't have gotten off to a worse start for the Eagles. Rudi Johnson picked up a fumble and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown, giving Dale a 7-0 lead. On their next possession, G.W. fumbled, settling up another Knights touchdown. The Eagles found themselves trailing 13-0 on the road against one of the state's premiere prorgams.
But then Chanston Rodgers would settle the G.W. offense down. He engineering a scoring drive, capped here by a 10-yard run from Antwain Kirby, cutting it to 13-7.
Then G.W.'s John Dickerson got into the act. He scored on a 26-yard run to give the Eagles a 14-13 lead.
Early in the second half, Dale's Rudi Johnson would ONCE AGAIN return a fumble for a touchdown, giving the Knights a 19-14 lead. But Chanston Rodgers (5) led the Eagles on an 8:00 drive in the fourth, capped by an 18-yard touchdown pass to Clifton Johns, giving G.W. a thrilling 21-19 win.
