The G.W. Eagles had their chances, but a late comeback attempt fell short as they dropped a 27-21 home decision to Halifax County in the district opener for both teams. The Eagles came out strong, scoring on their first possession of the game. But the Comets answered with two scores to take a 14-7 halftime lead. G.W. got a touchdown on their opening drive of the second half to even things up, but the Comets punched in two more scores to take a 27-14 lead. G.W. then went to the air to make it 27-21, but that was as close as they got. A late fumble and a successful fake punt by the Blue Comets gave them their first win in Danville since 1984.
