Oct. 6th, 2000 --- G.W. 17 Albemarle 14
Back on track
The G.W. Eagles have a new lease on life with the opening of Western District play. They made it count with a hard-fought 17-14 win over Albemarle. The Eagles used their legs to score the first touchdown of the game. Then, Micah Knight added a score and the Eagles led 14-0 at halftime. But the second half would belong to the Patriots. Mixing the run and the pass, they scored to make it 14-7. Berkeley Furguson made his first high school field goal to give G.W. a 17-7 lead. But with less than 2:00 left to play, Albemarle scored to make it 17-14. They then recovered the on-side kick, drove downfield, and attempted a game-tying Field Goal. It came up just short.
