Record-breaking win!

In
one of the finest high school football games I have ever witnessed, the
G.W. Eagles won a battle of wills against their arch-rivals. A
late touchdown and a key defensive stop, along with a school-record
field goal, propelled the Eagles to a thrilling 17-14 home win over the
E.C. Glass Hilltoppers.
The Eagles drew first blood on a two-yard run by Donovan Reaves to take
a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Later in the first the Eagles made it
a two score lead on a 49-yard field goal by Cam Stephens. That broke the school record of 48 yards held by Herman Moore (1986) and Rafael Garcia (1992).
But the Eagles offense was held in check for the rest of the first
half. Glass scored a short touchdown late in the second to make
it a 10-7 lead at halftime.
In the second half the Eagles offensive struggles continued as Glass
began to pole holes in the G.W. defense. Glass' placekicker nailed a
25-yarder to tie the game at 10-10 late in the third.
The defensive struggle continued in the fourth. Glass got another
25-yard field goal with five minutes left to take a 13-10 lead.
But the Eagles had one good drive left in them. They embarked on a 75-yard drive, all on the ground, capped by a a big run from Alex Brandon to take a 17-13 lead with less than two minutes left. After that, the G.W. defense sealed the win to boost their record to 2-1!
