Another second half surge!

For the second week in a row the G.W. Eagles used a dominant second half to put away a playoff team at Christopher. This week, the defense pitched a second-half shutout as the Eagles surged to an impressive 41-21 win over the Sherando Warriors in the first-ever matchups between the two perennial playoff teams.

For the second week in a row the Eagles took an early lead with an impressive opening drive.  Also like last week, the lead didn't last.  The Warriors riddled the G.W. defense, scoring easily on their first two possessions to take a 14-7 lead. G.W. evened the score with a TD early in the second quarter. But midway through the frame, a fumble gave the ball back to the Warriors.  They used a long pass to set up a short touchdown with two minutes left in the half to go back on top 21-14.

But the Eagles were able to get a late first-half drive.  They settled for a Camp Stephens field goal and trailed 21-17 at half.

The second half belonged entirely to the silver bonnets.

The defense forced a three-and-out. The offense put the ball into the end zone to give the Eagles a lead they never relinquished. The Eagles added two more touchdowns and another field goal to round out the scoring, making the final 41-21.
