2025 Week 11

It had been a subpar first half for the #1 seeded G.W. Eagles. They were hosting the #8 seeded Blacksburg Bruins in the first round of the Region 4D playoffs. They had a one-touchdown lead with two minutes left, thanks to an unlikely 68-yard touchdown pass. But the Bruins returned the ball to midfield. A 45-yard run put them at the five yard line. Two plays netted three yards.

With 9.8 seconds left on the clock, the Bruins opted to pass. Senior Tony Matos jumped the route, picked off the pass, then sprinted 98 yards for a game-changing touchdown. Instead of going into the break tied, the Eagles had a solid 22-7 lead at halftime.

The Eagles took over in the second half, scoring three more touchdowns while pitching a shutout on defense. They won 44-7.

The Eagles have now won 10 in a row. They will welcome the Sherando Warriors to Danville next Friday for the Regional Semifinals.
