The
GW Eagles scored two touchdowns in the final minute of the game to cap
an incredible comeback win on the road against their top district
rivals. The Eagles beat the Magna Vista Warriors 42-to-36,
getting the inside track in this year's race for the Piedmont District
football championship!
The Eagles began with a super kickoff return by David King, but
couldn't parlay it into points. Magna Vista took over and scored
to take a seven-nothing lead. The lead lasted only a few seconds.
But the Warriors' offense was in high gear. They scored on their
next two possession to take a 21-7 lead. Once again, Jalen Glenn
had a quick answer.
The Warriors scored AGAIN on possession number four. They added a
two-point conversion to got up 29-14 midway through the second
quarter. But the Eagles answered with Glenn's third touchdown,
and we went into the break with Magna Vista sporting a 29-21 lead.
Midway through the third, Magna Vista restablished their two-score lead
on a fluke play. A short swing pass attempt was ruled a
lateral. The Warriors scooped it up and scored to go up 36-21.
Neo Cabell scored to get the Eagles back within a possession heading
into the fourth.
Late in the game the Eagles put together a super drive. Glenn
scored his fourth touchdown with 52 seconds left to make it
36-34. But the Warriors broke up G.W.'s two-point attempt,
forcing the Eagles to have to try for an onside kick. Miracle of
miracles, it WORKED!
The Eagles got a big boost from a fask mask penalty to move into
scoring position. With 14 seconds left, Cabell picked up a low
snap that got away from him, kept his cool, ran left, and found lots of
blocking and lots of daylight to score the winning touchdown!
The win puts the Eagles at 4-1 and gives them control of their own destiny in the District race!
