Wet, gritty win!

The GW Eagles survived the weather and a couple of unfortunate calls to win their third in a row Thursday night.  They outlasted the Staunton River Golden Eagles 17-to-13 at Christopher Stadium.

Staunton River scored on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead.  GW struggled on offense, with one touchdown being called back on a penalty.

The Eagles answered early in the second quarter with a nifty run from Jaden Glenn to tie the game.  Six minutes later, Cam Stephens converted a 35-yard field goal to put the Eagles up for the first time.

The Eagles had a 10-7 halftime lead as the skies opened up. But the Eagles ground-and-pound attack finally got a score late in the third.

The Eagles burned nine minutes off the clock before turning the ball over on downs.  The Golden Eagles got a Hail Mary pass to move the ball into Eagle territory.  They then got a HIGHLY questionable pass interference call, which the refs mis-marked to give Staunton River an additional 10 yards. They scored on a fade pattern to make it 17-13.

Fortunately the Eagles recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock to take home their third win in a row!
