Better late than never!
It
was Tuesday night lights at J.T. Christopher Stadium as the
G.W. Eagles hosted the Amherst County Lancers in a makeup of a week
two game postponed because of COVID.
The Eagles scored touchdowns on
three of their four first-half possessions to take a 21-7 lead into the
break. In the
second half, they added three more
touchdowns, en route to a 42-15.
Amherst
County moved the ball well
in the first half, but the Eagles stopped them from scoring on two
trips to the
red zone. Meantime,
the Eagles got two
touchdowns from Senior Jakobe Dixon, and a third score from tailback
Elijah
Bridges to build a two touchdown lead.
In
the second half, the teams traded
third quarter scores. Up 28-15 early in the fourth, quarterback Jeb
Byrnes
found fellow Senior Donovan Howard on a fourth down play from 36 yards
out to
put the Eagles up 35-15. On
the Lancer’s
next series they were stuffed on a fourth down play when Eagle
defensive tackle
Ahmad Poole tossed a blocker aside and tackled the ball carrier for no
gain. The Eagles
answered minutes later
with Byrnes finding Will Daniels for a 21-yard touchdown.
The Eagles
(3-1, 1-0) get little
time to rest. They’re back at home
Friday hosting the Martinsville Bulldogs.
