Week 8

The GW Eagles got bitten by the upset bug, getting only 72 hours to prepare for a physical football game. The offense sputtered against a solid Franklin County defense...GW ended up taking a tough 16-14 loss.

Both defenses dominated the first half. GW was able to generate a mere 54 yards of offense. Franklin County scored with three minutes left to take a 7-0 lead into the break. It was late in the third quarter before GW could finally get rid of the goose egg, thanks to the legs of Carlos Poole. But a missed extra point left the Eagles down 7-6.

Midway through the fourth, Franklin County added a field goal to go up 10-6. But GW finally took the lead on another option keeper by Carlos Poole. A missed two point conversation gave the Eagles a 12-10 lead with 3:31 left.

But Franklin County stormed back. A long touchdown pass put them up 16-12 with 2:47 on the clock. GW got the ball and moved downfield, but their drive ended on an interception at the end zone. Franklin County took a safety with three-and-a-half seconds left, kicked it to GW, and held on for a final play to secure a major upset.
