Sep. 9, 2016 --- Glass 56 G.W. 28
Rough night in the Hill City
The GW Eagles scored first, a little over two minutes into the game. But a 43-point onslaught from the EC Glass Hilltoppers overwhelmed the young Eagles. Despite a mini-comeback in the third quarter, the Hilltoppers poured it on against in the fourth, beating the Eagles 56-28.
GW came out hot, taking advantage of a Glass blitz on third-and-long to score a long touchdown.
But then the Hilltoppers went on an epic run. A mishandled snap on a punt resulted in a safety. Glass then used good field position to score and take a 15-7 lead. Then, three straight touchdown passes gave them a 43-7 halftime lead.
The Eagles opened the second half like gangbusters, using a pair of three-and-outs on defense and two touchdowns to make it 43-21. But the Hilltoppers kicked in with their running game in the fourth quarter to ice the game.
The Eagles lost despite Kuashaun Forest getting a career-high 259 yards and three touchdowns! The 56 points was the most the Hilltoppers hung on the Eagles since 1928. It also broke their seven-game losing streak to GW.
The Eagles now have a week off before beginning the Piedmont District portion of their schedule September 23rd at home against Franklin County.
