one of his two sacks on the night!
For the second week in a row, the GW Eagles lost the yardage battle, but won the only battle that counts. They parlayed a series of big plays in all three phases of the game to open the playoffs with a 42-16 win over Liberty-Bealeton High School.
The other group of Eagles from Fauquier County came out like gangbusters. They took the opening kickoff and moved 73 yards down the field in nine plays, scoring from three yards out to take a six-nothing lead. But GW answered on the ensuing kickoff.
That gave the Eagles a 7-6 lead that they never relinquished. GW used their defense minutes later to expand the lead. Two more touchdowns from C.J. Graves put GW out in front at the half, 28-6. One of those scores was set up by an improbable catch!
In the Third Quarter, GW held the ball but could never crack the end zone. Midway through the fourth, a safety made it 28-8 GW. But a Tim Glass interception and return set the Eagles up for another score. Liberty cashed in with two-and-a-half minutes left; but the Eagles answer on the ensuing onside kick attempt.
