Oct. 17, 2014 --- G.W. 50 Magna Vista 33
Statement!
Rarely does a hotly-anticipated game so thoroughly live up the the hype. The GW Eagles and Magna Vista warriors showed off their speed, athleticism and overall talent for a full 48 minutes on Friday. The Eagles were able to survive a furious Warrior rally and come out with a 50-33 win!
For the sixth straight week, the Eagles scored on their first possession, with Malik Clements hauling in a short pass. The Warriors tied the game early in the second quarter, but the Eagles used an outstanding run to set up the go-ahead score. Less than a minute later, Hunter Byrnes found Malik again to make it a 21-7 Eagle. lead. But the Warriors scored with one minute left in the half to make it 21-13 at the break.
The Warriors got the ball to open the second half and went on a 12-play, 80-yard drive to score. They missed the two-point conversion, leaving GW with a 21-19. The Eagles responded immediately with a long pass to set up a short score. GW added two more touchdowns to take what they thought was a commanding 42-19 lead early in the fourth.
But the Warriors stormed
back. It took 20 seconds for them to score and get a two-point conversion
to make it 42-27. Five minutes later, they were on the board again.
But their two-point attempt failed and it remained a two-possession game,
42-33. GW iced it with a late TD and two-pointer to win 50-33!
The Eagles move to 7-0 with the win. Next up, a trip to Rocky Mount on Friday
to take on the Franklin County Eagles!
