Weird Opener!
The G.W. Season opener featured 10 touchdowns, 12 turnovers, and about a hundred cramps! Playing in oppressively humid conditions in advance of Hurricane Irene, the Eagles rolled up a 284-81 yard advantage in the first half. But they only led 27-20, thanks mostly to two interceptions that Petersburg returned for touchdowns. In the second half, Petersburg stepped up their defense and switched to a power offense to take a 34-27. An injured Demontae Ballard returned to lead the Eagles to a late touchdown. But a missed extra point was the difference as G.W. dropped their second straight season opener.
