G.W. 28 -- Woodbridge 3
The Eagles went into this game looking for revenge. The year before in Northern Virginia, Woodbridge used a stifling defense, and a questionable official's spot on a key fourth down play to beat the Eagles 15-8 in the first round of the playoffs.
Woodbridge got an early field goal to take a 3-0 lead, but the Eagles defense soon took over. Terry Waller got a sack on a blind side blitz, forcing a fumble. Courtney Epps (82) picked it up and ran 52 yards for a touchdown, giving G.W. a 7-3 lead. Later, Tyrone Nunnally would score on an acrobatic 78-yard interception return, boosting the lead to 14-3. | |
On their next possession, G.W.'s offense got into the act. On this play, Fullback Tyrone Robertson would score from three yards out to give G.W. a 21-3 halftime lead. The Eagles used a late Chanston Rodgers touchdown and an overpowering defense to topple the Vikings 28-3, winning their second regional title in three years. |
