The game could scarcely have gotten off to a better start for G.W. They used a Franklin County muffed punt to complete a 95-yard opening drive, with Greg Thompson running it in from 8 yards out to give us a 7-0 lead. Later, Kenny Lewis scored his 8th touchdown of the year, as G.W. moved out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. But the offense stalled from that point on. G.W.'s Cameron Martin was tackled in the end zone for a safety, the first G.W. has given up since the 1980s. In the second half, Franklin County dominated field position, and their defense limited G.W. to just 35 second-half yards. Brian Huff scored to make it a 14-8 lead, then Jermaine Richardson would break G.W.'s heart with a punt return for a touchdown to give Franklin County their first-ever win over G.W.
