The GW Eagles survived a rocky start on defense, relying on big offensive plays and a second-half defensive surge to score a 31-13 non-district win over E.C. Glass.
For the second game in a row, the Eagles scored on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead. But the Hilltoppers answered on a long drive on the legs of quarterback Donnie Morgan to make it 7-7. However, Eagle quarterback Hunter Byrnes had one more big play up his sleeve to give the Eagles a 14-7 edge at the break.
In the second half, Byrnes would use his legs to give the Eagles a 21-7 lead. Glass scored again to close to 21-13; but the Eagles' defense scored points for the second week in a row to put it out of reach!
A Field Goal from Caleb McGeough made it a 31-13 win, improving the Eagles to 3-0! G.W. has this coming Friday off before opening Piedmont District play hosting Halifax County.
