The G.W. Eagles had their ups and downs as they opened up the 2013 playoffs at home. They built a two-touchdown lead, then held on for dear life to hold off the Black Knights of Charlottesville, 37-33. G.W. wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a little more than two minutes into the game. After a Charlottesville touchdown got them within a point, the Eagles answered quickly. G.W. added a field goal to go up 17-6. They were lining up a long field goal attempt on the final play of the half when disaster struck. The Black Knights blocked the kick and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown to make it 17-14 Eagles at the break.
In the second half, the Eagles used their own good fortune to go up by two scores. That included a little good luck. With nine minutes left in the game, the Eagles had built a 37-21 lead...but the Black Knights weren't done. They scored two touchdowns to pull to within four. Charlottesville got the ball back with a little more than a minute left on the clock. But the Eagles made one last defensive play to secure the win!
