A tough way to open the season for G.W. They opened by blocking a punt in the first quarter to set up their only score. Garfield answered on the next play with a 57-yard touchdown run, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty caused the extra point to be a 35-yarder, that they missed. That made it 7-6 G.W. It stayed that way throughout the second half, with the Eagles starting Garfield twice deep in G.W. territory. But a roughing the passer penalty extended a 4th quarter Garfield drive, eventually resulting in the game-winning 46-yard field goal.
