Shocking opener!

A young G.W. team was outgunned by an experienced Varina Blue Devil squad in both teams' season opener.  Varina scored the first four times they had the football to take a 26-0 lead.  G.W.'s talented running back duo willed the Eagles into the end zone on their next possession.  G.W.'s young defense showed signs of improvement after that.  But then fate intervened.  With about four minutes left in the third quarter, coaches agree to call the game because two transformers near the field were arcing---bringing the possibility of a blackout.  The lights stayed on and the Eagles opened their season on a down note.  They'll have two weeks to get ready for Amherst County.
