David Wilson scores the second of his two
touchdowns!
In a battle of otherwise evenly-matched teams, turnovers told the tale as the G.W. Eagles lost 27-14 to Potomac in the Northwest Region Division Five Championship game. The Eagles got off to a great start, taking the opening kickoff and scoring six plays later! But then the turnover bug began to bite. Fumbles on three of G.W.'s next four possessions, all of them coming on first down runs, allowed Potomac to build a 17-7 halftime lead. A couple of untimely penalties also came into play. One negated a punt return for a touchdown. The other allowed a Potomac drive to continue---a drive that ended in a late first-half touchdown. In the second half, Potomac stretched it out to a 24-7 lead, when the Eagles began a comeback attempt with another David Wilson touchdown. But Potomac held the ball more than five minutes on a field goal drive to seal the deal and end G.W.'s. season. The Eagles closed out with an EXCELLENT 10-2 record!
